A TG Musical Evening Concert 2016

On the eve of the Annual General Meeting, members and their guests attended a concert in The Pavilion theatre, Bournemouth, given by the Kaleidoscope Concert Orchestra. It was excellent entertainment and the programme included a great variety of music, from light classical, such as ‘The Westminster Waltz’, to songs
from shows, such as South Pacific.

The conductor, Tony Smallwood, made an excellent compère and got the audience to interact with the orchestra – clapping and singing when appropriate. The soprano soloist Elizabeth Ferrie gave a beautiful rendition of ‘O Mio Babbino Caro’, followed by ‘Edelweiss’, encouraging the audience to join in with her in the latter. She also led the audience in TG’s own special song ‘I Am a Small Part of the World’ towards the end of the programme. For me, the highlight was the xylophone solo ‘The Two Imps’. There was much waving of flags when the ‘Pomp and Circumstance March’ and ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ were played. And, as people left the auditorium, members were expressing what a lovely evening it had been.
