Voluntary ban agreed on gambling ads during live TV sports
This morning, it was announced that the Remote Gambling Association (RGA), which includes Bet365, Ladbrokes and Paddy Power, has reached an agreement to stop adverts which promote gambling from being shown during live sports broadcasts on TV.
The decision comes following concerns over the amount of gambling adverts being shown, with the football World Cup being held up as an example of the sheer volume that are being shown during the course of any one event. An exception is being made for horse-racing, but this ban will apply to all other sporting events.
TG called for an end to gambling advertisements in 2015 and while this is just a small part of a bigger whole, we hope that the gambling companies who comprise the RGA will hold to this voluntary ban so that sports fans of all ages might enjoy watching their favourites without being bombarded with ads which might encourage problem and/or underage gambling.
