Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal joins Townswomen’s Guild Carol Service

With so much evidence to the benefits of singing on health and well-being it is easy to understand why the 650 members of The Townswomen’s Guild (TG) who attended the Hereford carol service left with big smiles on their faces.

Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, in Her role as TG Patron, joined the TG members as they sang classic Christmas carols such as On Christmas night and Calypso Carol with gusto and enthusiasm.

The event took place in wonderful setting of Hereford Cathedral on the 12th December and as with every one of the three TG carol services the Hereford service was a sell out, with tickets sold months in advance and every seat taken.

Members of TG, one of the UK’s largest and oldest female membership organisations, were delighted to see their Patron, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, in attendance.

The TG board members thanked Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal on behalf of the membership for her continued support of the organisation and their plans for the future.

The Princes Royal has had a long relationship with the TG, a national membership organisation for women, the first contact being in 1977 when TG raised funds for Save the Children, of which The Princess Royal is Patron. Having been impressed by the organisation TG were delighted that Her Royal Highness formally took on the role of TG Patron in the years that followed. A role that has seen Her Royal Highness regularly attend events and provide invaluable advice and support for the organisation.

Townswomen’s Guilds is one of the largest women’s organisations in the UK. With around 600 Guilds and 24,000 members, it is experiencing something of a renaissance through a ‘new generation’ of members, attracted by the events, friendship, crafts and campaigning on social issues offered collectively and by individual Guilds around the country.
