St Martin-in-the-Fields Thanksgiving Celebration

St Martin-in-the-Fields stands at the north-east corner of Trafalgar Square in the City of Westminster, London and because of its prominent position is one of the most famous churches in London.

Dedicated to Saint Martin of Tours, the present building was constructed in a neoclassical design by James Gibbs in 1722–1726.

This magnificent building was the venue for the first of TG’s two Thanksgiving Celebrations which commemorate the 90th anniversary of this wonderful organisation of ours.

The service was conducted by the Reverend Jonathan Evens, the organist was Andrew Earis, the choir was the Chamber Choir of Burnwood School, and the Director was Debbie Lammin and the pianist Satoshi Kubo.

A packed audience of enthusiastic TG members witnessed the Service start with a parade of banners belonging to TG’s Federations, which are defined as a grouping of individual Guilds in a particular area.

A candle was lit by the National Chairman, Jenny Rideout, in remembrance of our founder members and those past, present and future.

Hymns were sung with gusto; readings and pieces by the Choir were listened to thoughtfully.

The Service finished with a reading by the National Chairman, Jenny Rideout entitled “Celebrating 90 Years” which had been specially written by Ellen Jenkinson.

Having thoroughly enjoying this, the first of our two Thanksgiving Celebrations, members left each vowing boldly to take TG forward to reach the next milestone, 100 years!!!
