TG National Carol Service 2016
Townswomen’s Guilds National Christmas Carol Service sells out in record time
Townswomen’s Guilds Carol Services are always well attended, but with attendance by the organisation’s patron, HRH, The Princess Royal, today’s event sold out in record time.
“This year’s event is very special, taking place at the spectacularly beautiful Chichester Cathedral, with Princess Anne joining us. So many people have expressed interest in attending, but tickets sold incredibly quickly,” said Jenny Rideout, TG National Chairman. “I hope those not able to join us will perhaps take part in one of the many local Guild events around the country.”
“Chichester Cathedral is the perfect venue for our service,” continued Jenny. “It is an amazing blend of ancient and modern, with architectural and artistic treasures from every century since its foundation 900 years ago. It is especially famous for its modern art. Unique medieval features can be found alongside world-famous contemporary paintings, sculpture and glass by artists such as Graham Sutherland, Marc Chagall, John Piper and Philip Jackson.”
The popularity of Townswomen’s Guilds’ national events reflects the ongoing affection for the organisation. With historic roots in the Suffragist movement, Townswomen’s Guilds is still one of
the largest women’s groups in the UK, and with around 650 Guilds and 24,000 members is experiencing something of a renaissance with a ‘new generation’ of members attracted not only by the events, activities and friendship that TG offers, but also by campaigning on social issues such as domestic violence, FGM
and modern slavery.
“Women of any age interested in joining a local Guild should visit our excellent website at www.the-tg.com to use our simple ‘Find a Guild Near You’ facility. You’ll find a warm welcome, fun and things to do at a Guild local to you,” concluded Jenny.
Note about the venue
Chichester is one of a reducing number of English Cathedrals with free admission; it is open every day and all year with free entry, free guided tours, special trails for children and daily
services.
